The 550 parachute cord is made in the USA by the current government manufacturer. The 550 parachute cord is approximately 1/8" diameter. The 550 cord is a continuous filament nylon shroud cord with 7 inner twisted nylon lines. The inner strands of the 550 parachute cord can be separated for emergency sewing, repair, braiding, tieing, etc. Our 550 parachute cord is available in 50ft hanks. Multipurpose rope is a must around camp, at home or in your truck or in 72 hour kits. This Parachute cord resists rot and mildew, and is non friction based. It has become known as an all-weather material. After World War II parachute cord became available to civilians, first as military surplus and then as a common retail product. Parachute cord is a lightweight nylon kernmantle rope originally used in the suspension lines of US parachutes during World War II. Once in the field, paratroopers found this cord useful for many other tasks. It is now used as a general purpose utility cord by both military personnel and civilians.
